Most overweight people go along with periods of dieting, then off dieting, slowly gaining and then losing a bit, while others continue to gain weight continuously until their Body Mass Index registers them as being in the overweight section of overweight.Additional problems are brought on by aging, they slow down using less energy to complete tasks, or skip them altogether. Exercising becomes more difficult due to loss of muscle tissue, (lowering our metabolic rate), aches and pains and reduced stamina.
With the tremendous increase in the percentage of overweight, let alone overweight statistics, there’s obviously millions of references and miracle cures around. Unfortunately in these articles, it can be seen that the truth is less dramatic.

So to start with, why are plenty of us so overweight?

Genetic
First there’s genetic differences when it comes to weight gain. Over two of our building block codes, or genes as they are known, are responsible for our metabolic rate, and for our desire to exercise. For example, two that has been discovered is called the FTO gene, and it regulates the amount of energy burned, without it more energy is spontaneously used for the same work.

Before birth and as babies
Weight gain problems can be initiated before you are born. In cases where the father is diabetic, smokes or has malnutrition and vitamin B deficiency, there is a greater chance of the kid growing up overweight.

In infancy
An early withdrawal off breast milk and replacement with a high calorie diet, including monosodium glutamate in kid formula, are indicators of future obesity.

As babies
Overweight parents have overweight babies. Babies are easily influenced. The misguided habit of providing babies with something to put in their mouths where ever they might be, shopping center, movies, beach, and the influence of peers under the same management will lead them unknowingly towards obesity. The school cafeteria looks like a speedy food joint filled with hamburgers, fries and pizza.

Lifestyles – food
Fast food today has never had a greater influence on the public, it is convenient, tasty and addicting. Popular outlets promote the habits and traits of overweight people who suffer from overeating. This is two of the most important causes of obesity. The food industry, fast food restaurants, and grocery stores make more funds on calorie rich foods than on unprocessed fruits and veggies.

Lifestyle – social trend
Fifty years ago people used to walk or cycle to work and most other places. Nowadays, the lifestyle of an individual has become increasingly sedentary as the years go by. The more technology advances, the more people sit at home all day doing nothing but staring at a screen, people would play computer games & watch tv in the comforts of their home. This and the fact that they do not control their food intake is another sizable reason why people become overweight.

Diet
This certainly goes under causes, read on. Recent research has shown that dieting is a major cause of obesity. While the long term success rate from dieting is less than seven percent, about 30 percent of dieters regain over they lose as a direct result of their dieting. Misleading promotion is, unfortunately, normal for the diet industry. The majority of diet food products tested for the New York state Consumer Protection Board contained more calories than listed on their package labels. 80 percent of the diet food products tested exceeded claimed calories, some by as much as 73 calories per serving. Added sugar has been found in 25% of orange juice brands described as pure & unsweetened.

Hormones
The hormone leptin signals to the brain (hypothalamus) that the body has had to eat, In a small percentage of people, there is a resistance to this signal that tells us that they have sufficient storage of overweight. Several studies have shown that fasting & low calorie diets lowers leptin levels. It might be that on short term leptin is an indicator of energy balance. This technique is more sensitive to starvation than to overfeeding. That is, leptin levels do not rise extensively after overfeeding. & in people who constantly over eat, this same resistance to the sufficiency signal develops. In order to restore this balance a drug, Fc-leptin is being developed. But this of coursework wont guarantee that in the long run the hypothalamus increases its resistance. Although they ought to not use theses causes as an excuse, they are certainly relevant. So it important that people understand whether they are going to be prone for weight gain in order to take steps to limit the effects before it is late.

We know that we are exposed to free radicals and we cant actually avoid it. Free radicals are everywhere, generated by air pollution, sunshine, X rays, pesticides, car exhaust and even breathing and exercise. However by increasing our intake of free radical fighters – antioxidants, we are able to defend our cells from free radicals.

USDA measures the raw power of antioxidants by measuring the Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC). It measures how well the antioxidants mop up the free radicals. The USDA recommends that we need to get about 3,000 to 5,000 ORAC units daily, preferably from fresh vegetables and fresh fruits.

Chart entitled Top Antioxidant Foods, on page 48 of Discovery of the Ultimate Superfood by Gary Young ND, Ronald Lawrence MD, PhD, Marc Schreuder; Essential Science Publishing; © July 2005 listed dried wolfberries as one of the natural fruits with high ORAC unit ( about 20200 units). All antixoidant capacity measures are estimated by Ferric Reducing Power and are expressed as micromole Trolox equivalent (TE) per 100 grams or 3.53 ounces, accurate to ±5%.

The U.S. is one of the most progressive countries in the world. We are one of the leading industrial nations, our citizens drive tens of millions of cars, our homes are insulated, we have central air conditioning and indoor heat, we produce more food than any other country in the world and store it in refrigerators, our floors are
carpeted and our lawns are weed-free.

We have make-up to make us look more beautiful, Botox to make us look younger, strips to make our teeth whiter and prescription drugs to make us live longer.

So why are so many Americans getting and dying from cancer? Well there are many reasons. But this note today is on my mind. As it turns out, the very aspects of modern life that have supposedly made life easier are, in fact, making life more dangerous. And these “aspects” can be summed up in one word – - CHEMICALS!

In 1989, the U.S. produced its one millionth man-made chemical. While many of these chemicals have made our lives more enjoyable, most are finding their way into our bodies and wreaking havoc.

Of the 70,000 chemicals being used commercially in the U.S., the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) considers 65,000 of them to be potentially – - if not DEFINITELY – - hazardous to your health!

And that’s not all…

More than 6,000 new chemicals are being tested in the U.S. every week! What is really frightening is these chemicals aren’t just sitting around in warehouses. According to the Environmental Defense Group, more than 4 billion pounds of toxic chemicals are released into the environment each year – 72 million pounds of which are known carcinogens!

And where are these cancer-causing agents ending up? In the air you breathe, the water you drink and in the food you eat. They are everywhere! It is SO important to be proactive with ensuring that your environment is safe, the water you consume is pure and the air you breathe is the cleanest possible.

Look around you and see if you at possible risk…

The Doctor of the Future will give NO Medicine, but will interest his patients in diet and nutrition, exercise and the care of the human
frame. He will teach them about the cause of ALL disease.
