Managing Gout with Diet

Gout is a painful swelling and inflammation of the joints caused by the build up of uric acid crystals in the joints. Gout is one of the most typical arthritis forms which usually appear as an acute attack. Gout is one of the most painful rheumatic diseases. It results from deposits of needle-like crystals of uric acid in connective tissue, in the joint space between two bones, or in both. This uric acid leads to inflammatory arthritis, which causes swelling, redness, heat, pain, and stiffness in the joints. Uric acid is a substance that results from the breakdown of purines, which are part of all human tissue and are found in many foods. Normally, uric acid is dissolved in the blood and passed through the kidneys into the urine, where it is eliminated. If the body increases its production of uric acid or if the kidneys do not eliminate enough uric acid from the body, levels of it build up in the blood (a condition called hyperuricemia).

Review on Double X- Nutrilites Multivitamin

I always skeptical about multivitamins until I tried out Double X. Firstly, the price is a bit pricey for me. RM138 just enough for 30 days supply. It is recommended to take twice a day. For me, RM138 enough for 60 days consumption as take only once a day. For merely RM2.30 per day, I am able to provide my body with 12 types of vitamins, 17 plants concentrates and 9 various types of minerals. Quite a decent bargain for such high quality and branded multivitamins by Nutrilites.

Deodarant/antiperspirant and breast cancer

Frequent use of deodorant or antiperspirants can cause breast cancer? This claim however is not supported by strong scientific evidence. Till now, there are no strong epidemiological studies done to prove the association of deodorant with breast cancer. A study in 2002 looked for links between antiperspirant use and breast cancer in 1,500 women. The researchers found that neither antiperspirants nor deodorants increased breast cancer risk. These conclusions were based on interviews with 813 women with breast cancer and 793 women with no history of breast cancer. The result was published in The Journal of National Cancer Institute.

Why we are fat

Most overweight people go along with periods of dieting, then off dieting, slowly gaining and then losing a bit, while others continue to gain weight continuously until their Body Mass Index registers them as being in the overweight section of overweight. Additional problems are brought on by aging, they slow down using less energy to complete tasks, or skip them altogether. Exercising becomes more difficult due to loss of muscle tissue, (lowering our metabolic rate), aches and pains and reduced stamina.

How to choose your sun cream/ sun block

Sunblock protects your skin by absorbing and/or reflecting UVA and UVB radiation.

All sunblocks have a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) rating. The SPF rating indicates how long a sunscreen remains effective on the skin. A user can determine how long their sunblock will be effective by multiplying the SPF factor by the length of time it takes for him or her to suffer a burn without sunscreen.
The American Association of Dermatology (AAD) recommends that a “broad spectrum” sunblock with an SPF of at least 15 that is applied daily to all sun exposed areas, then reapplied every two hours. However, in some recent clinical trials, sunblocks with SPF 30 provided significantly better protection than sunblocks with SPF15.

However, SPF is only a measurement for Ultraviolet B (UVB) sun protection. SPF gives no protection from UVA rays.

So, a good sun block should have also PA++ label, PA is a rating used in sun products for defense against UVA radiation. UVA is longer, aging rays of the sun. PA is the measure of the change (darkening) in skin pigmentation after exposure of sun, UVA more exact. The indicator for measuring protection offered in a product ranges on scale from + indicating light protection, to ++ for moderate protection and +++ for maximum protection.

So, do pay attention to this SPS and PA ++ label when choosing your sun cream/ sun block.
