- How Do I Treat Acne? Your skin get greasy, it pores get blocked and you get blackheads, pimples and cysts. In teenagers, both young men and young women have more male hormones (testosterone) in their blood. The hormones makes the sebaceous glands at the bottom of their hairs on your face, back or neck churn out too much oil, which then clogged in the pores. Bacteria will grow in the trapped oil and make fatty substances that irritate your skin. This will later become whiteheads, blackheads, red bumps, yellow pus filled spots or deep cysts. Menstruation, stress, contraceptive pills (contain male hormones), drugs (steroids, anti epilepsy pills) and oily cosmetics will exaggerate the acne. Contrary to popular belief, acne is seldom made worse by food (a minority however may react to chocolate or fatty foods). Acne is not made worse by greasy hair, hair on the face or swimming pools. It is not infectious and cannot be scrubbed away by keeping the skin excessively clean.
